Beirut[Lebanon], September 9: The UNESCO-Italy joint renovation project of Qadisha valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Lebanon, has concluded.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said in a statement on Friday that the project helped recover three degraded historic trails in the villages of Hadchit, Hasroun and MazraatEnnahar.
The project also restored mural paintings on landmark monasteries of Mar Assia and Deir El-Salib and rehabilitated the churches of Mar Behnam, Mar Mtanios and Mart Shmuni.
It also offered training sessions for local communities in forest fire prevention and control, and the exchange of restoration techniques with Lebanese experts, according to the statement.
Italian Agency for Development Cooperation had invested 500,000 euros (about 537,050 U.S. dollars) in rehabilitating the trails, it noted.
